Did you know that mono- and diglycerides are animal fats and that most grocery store breads contains them?
It seems that not many people know this! Glycerin is another culprit, it is a by-product of soap making and it is often put in lotions as well as foods, it is used as a stabilizer. So that's the bad news, the good news is that there are vegetable mono- and diglycerides as well as vegetable glycerin. How do you tell the difference? It will be marked in the list of ingredients as "vegetable glycerin" or "vegetable mono- and diglycerides." I see a lot of vegetarians eating food that contains these nasty ingredients (*ahem* coffee mate! *ahem*) and I have to wonder, is this not common knowledge? I thought it was.
